Making better decisions

I get to interact with people across the food system every day, which gives me a really useful insight. But a lot of people I speak to end up trapped in their own problems, the challenges of their own businesses, whether they're a farmer, a manufacturer, or a retailer, and they only get to see things through one lens. What Future Food Movement actually offers is the chance for people to experience those problems together, and understand there's a commonality of challenge, and potentially a commonality of solution. It's a genuine leveller, the opportunity to see and address the problems we all face, through each other's different lenses and experience.
Chris HatcherHead of FMCG Practice, Redgrave Search
The convergence of agricultural health and human health is the next great economic frontier. However, just as in nature, successful evolution requires a coordinated system of actors, not silos. I'm here to share the future trends shaping the market and to stress-test those ideas against the realities. Future Food Movement enables us to drop the mask and have the fearless, honest conversations that are impossible elsewhere. To drive true systems transformation, I need to hear the truth from the ground up, not just the polished version.
Antony YousefianPartner, The First Thirty
Manufacturing plays a critical role in the food system, influencing progress up and down the chain. The Transformation Table is a rare space to bring together diverse perspectives and confront the real tensions we face, from climate and health to trust and affordability. Honest dialogue matters, especially when it comes to the role of meat in sustainable diets. This is a moment to listen, challenge and build solutions that are workable in the real world.
Lorna SchneiderChief Quality & Sustainability Officer, Hilton Foods
I joined the Transformation Table as I believe listening and learning from our collective diverse backgrounds could create real change. I wanted to be part of that movement! There are always barriers to change but the current food system is not designed to positively impact the health of people, animals, plants or planet. There are some brilliant examples of good work across all of these areas, but let's create the blueprint to do this everywhere.
Claire HughesInnovation and Health Specialist
One of the most interesting things people tend to underestimate is the resilience of the system that's already there. We talk about the food system as broken, as not serving people, and while it's got real flaws, what it still fundamentally does is deliver choice at a convenient price to every single person in this country. Making sure we bake in that resilience as the system comes under more shocks matters. But the biggest thing people forget to do is champion the good stuff that's happening, alongside the points we need to improve. That's the balance conversations like this one, through Future Food Movement, help us strike.

Building better judgement

The mindset shift in our leaders since partnering with Future Food Movement is remarkable. Their upskilling has driven more insightful decision-making, helping to future-proof our business for the next generation.
Mary-Ann KilbyManaging Director, Warburtons
We put 100 of our leaders and key managers through the FFM Masterclass programmes and they had exactly the impact that we wanted. They were absolutely transformative. We came to FFM for the training and we still use that. Why have we stayed? We stayed for the support, for the insights and for the network.
Nick BrownESG Director, Premier Foods
Getting a grasp on the entire supply chain is crucial. The Accelerator boosted my expertise in regenerative agriculture, human rights, and Net Zero. Armed with this knowledge, I'm empowered to drive real solutions to the challenges we face.
Vicky Tucker
It has been an opportunity for senior leaders in ESG and Sustainability across the UK food and drink sector to engage, reflect and look ahead. I don't give myself enough time to reflect on me, my skills and how that might compare to my peers in other businesses.
David Moore
Ultimately, we need teams of people, those chefs, technologists, developers, marketers and purchasing managers, to be upskilled, qualified and experienced to apply that climate impact lens to their role so that we can channel future innovation in product processes, in sourcing, and so on to be climate positive.
Charles Banks
We trusted Future Food Movement's approach from the start. The playbook and support are now vital foundations for embedding ESG across the business.

Thinking beyond today's pressures

The signal that came through most clearly for me was around resilience and food security, and the fact that we've got to think as an industry much further into the future. It's not just about making sure good food is available today, tomorrow, or next week, it's about thinking fifteen and twenty years ahead, to make sure the land we have, particularly in the UK, stays capable of producing genuinely nutritious food. Getting that long-term view into the room, rather than just today's pressures, is exactly what Future Food Movement pushes this industry to do.
Nigel MurrayBooths
Agriculture moves slowly. A more sustainable crop takes two years to show results, new genetics in cattle take three or four. Against that, we've got maybe four good years before our 2030 targets, in an industry that normally takes forty to fifty years to move from 'good idea' to 'what we do now.' We've underestimated both the scale of that challenge and the urgency it demands. Closing that gap, faster than the industry would move on its own, is exactly what Future Food Movement is for.
Ben Williams
Your objectives and targets need to be more closely aligned to the public health targets that we need to have in this country. Every week there are 3,000 people going into hospital because of the food that they eat and 30,000 people every year die of diet-related diseases. And that's not acceptable.
Baroness Walmsleyspeaking at a Future Food Movement event
We definitely need to scale up health and sustainability goals to take an industry-wide approach across the full supply chain in the UK, and Future Food Movement is a great platform for that.

Honest conversations

You come away from these events invigorated, with food for thought from people you wouldn't otherwise meet. It's a proper conversation, no posturing, no corporate spin. Just people who care about solving big challenges and are willing to share what they're learning along the way.
Phil GibsonTwig PR
One of the biggest tensions in sustainability and the commercial side right now is the need for collaboration across the whole system, supply chain through to demand, and across multiple stakeholders. Farming has been optimised for input and output, which has worked well commercially, but if we're serious about optimising for something as complex as the environment and our health, we need real holistic capability, and a lot more data and information feeding commercial decisions. The industry has all the pieces, but it hasn't reorganised itself internally to make that happen, it's not just people, it's the technology and the whole architecture of data and information flow that needs to catch up. That's exactly the kind of cross-system thinking Future Food Movement brings people together to work through.
Antony Yousefian
I joined the Transformation Table to bring in the voices of citizens, farmers and the values-led businesses already shaping a better food system. The solutions exist, they're just not evenly seen or supported, and this feels like a chance to bring them into the centre through leadership, insight and honest collaboration. I'm hopeful this can be a space for truth, tension and real progress, where we stop skirting the hard stuff and start building the future with the people already making it happen.
David Edwards
We all tend to benefit from listening, being appropriately challenged, respecting different opinions, learning. When this is on matters of substance, then good discourse can be a helpful tool to make life a bit better. The opposite is also true when good time is wasted on procrastination, posturing, identity statements and the crudeness of cancelling. It is to be hoped that the Transformation Table can be the former and make a positive difference.
Dr Clive Black
There's a huge amount of interest in the stories around our food. I launched a book on that in January and have been overwhelmed by the interest in it. People on the street, consumers, food lovers, they may not be talking about 'the food system' as such, but the issues, especially the ones around health and wellbeing, are more and more pertinent to them. Times might be difficult, and there's even more pressure to get things right, but don't underestimate the value of telling the stories about the challenges the industry faces, and the progress it's making too. That's the kind of conversation Future Food Movement makes room for.

Bringing the right people together

We chose to partner due to the shared mission around helping the food industry move to a sustainable future. Future Food Movement are excellent at convening many of the most influential industry leaders, and we believe this is a great opportunity to partner to achieve our shared goals.
Streisan Bevan
I back the Future Food Movement because if we're going to tackle the climate emergency, it can't just be me or my businesses alone who can fix it, but it will take a big collaboration with our food industry peers. Together we are stronger, we can make a difference and I look forward to playing our part in building climate-smart food systems.
Ranjit Singh
What was fascinating was having business leaders in the room who make serious decisions that affect the entire food supply chain, and being close to the bottom of that chain myself, getting real insight into their thinking. This evening gave us the ability to ask questions about data, and what it's actually worth. I think farmers are giving that data away too cheaply, and it was interesting that a lot of the panel agreed, but didn't necessarily know what the value of that data was, or how it should be used. I'll go away from this evening knowing I've at least put that question to people who have the power to do something about it, and that, to me, is the value of being part of Future Food Movement, getting the right question in front of the people who can actually act on it.
Ali Cargill
The challenges the food industry faces are incredibly complex and can't be solved without people coming together. For me, this is an amazing opportunity to contribute towards a group of diverse voices all focussed on achieving the same thing for our industry.
Jack Warburton
A thriving, sustainable and effective food system is integral to the nation's health, resilience, security and success. As a dynamic and complex system it faces constant challenges but also innumerable, evolving opportunities. It's a privilege to be involved with such a diverse group seeking to positively and proactively support the sector.
Will Jennings
It's been brilliant to be part of an evening like this. The biggest thing for leadership right now is realising we have so much more in common than we think, and that we need to work together as an industry, as partners across the food system, to support what matters most: giving our customers and communities better, healthier, sustainable diets that are affordable, and that work for the supplier base too, not just the customer. That's the kind of conversation Future Food Movement makes space for.
Oonagh Turnbull

Developing people and organisations

One of the things that really attracted me to FFM as a community was the mantra 'every job is a climate job' and that really, really resonated. Over the last two years we've really seen the impact of not just the training but the ongoing communications, the ongoing support, the engagement through FFM that we then cascade out to our organisation. And then personally for my team, this community and its support is so vital just for our professional and personal development as well.
Verity Lawson
Education and skills will drive the future productivity and success of our food industry. To support the next generation, we need open, honest conversations about the skills and experiences learners and graduates will need, and a collaborative approach across all parts of the system to make this a reality. I welcome the chance to be part of these system-shifting conversations, to contribute and, perhaps most importantly, to learn. There is much we should be optimistic about.

Confidence, community and support

Having led change inside large organisations and worked across government, policy and innovation, I know how difficult it is to drive long-term change when you're constantly balancing competing pressures. It can be an incredibly lonely place to be. That's why I think Future Food Movement is so valuable. It creates a trusted community where leaders can think together, challenge each other and make sense of the complex forces shaping the future of food. If we're serious about building a healthier, more resilient food system, we need spaces like this that bring together different perspectives and help turn good intentions into better decisions.
Polly Mackenzie
Sustainability can feel lonely. Having a cohort of friendly, accessible professionals and inspiring discussions has been empowering and has helped me reflect, learn and challenge the food system.
David Moore
